Four Tips For Chartering A Yacht For The First Time

If you are looking for a different type of vacation that doesn't involve crowded resorts and the same old tourist spots, then chartering a yacht may be the ideal vacation for you. Staying on a yacht allows you to avoid the crowds and experience the water from a unique perspective. Chartered yachts are also great when you want to spend more time with your family because you can all remain on one boat spending the vacation together. Before you start booking your first chartered yacht, here are a few tips to help make your experience even better.

Listen to the Captain

You cannot always predict what the weather is going to do ahead of time. While your itinerary may start at certain ports, it is important to understand that your safety is a priority. If your captain has to change the itinerary because of the weather conditions, you must listen to him. He and the crew want you to have the best experience on the yacht, but rough weather should dictate the schedule to ensure everyone remains safe. If the schedule does change, be patient and go along with it without arguing.

Be Mindful of Other Yachters

When you dock into the harbors, it is important that you remain aware of others on nearby boats. This is especially important during early morning hours and late nights. It is crucial that you keep the noise down so that you do not disturb others when you are on vacation. Noise tends to travel over the water, so you want to keep conversations and music down when you are in the harbor. When out in the water, you don't have to worry about other boats.

Tip the Captain and Crew

It is the crew's job to ensure you have a great vacation while on the yacht and they work long hours to see that you do. Just before you get off the yacht, you want to generously tip the captain and his crew. In general, a tip of 10% to 20% is customary and accounts for about 50% of the crew's earnings that week. Even if your broker does not mention a tip, it is important that you acknowledge the crew's hard work by offering one at the end of your trip.

Remove Your Shoes

When boarding a yacht, you want to take off your shoes. Anytime you are on the boat, you should not wear shoes, as this can damage the boat's interior. Instead, you should see a shoe basket at the entrance of the boat where you can deposit your shoes. If you do not want to go barefoot while on board, then wearing clean socks or slippers is recommended.
